Family fishing day is an opportunity for visitors come to the McHenry Dam day use area and put some bait on the hook and see what they can catch.  It's been a tradition in the park for many years. 

 

The Friends of Moraine Hills State Park has everything you need – poles, hooks and bait.  Just bring your friends & family and join us along the Fox River for a relaxing afternoon.  We’ll help you bait your hook and show you how to cast. We’ll also dip into the river for aquatic macroinvertebrates - the little critters upon which the fish feed. Participants receive a $1.00 coupon for a snack at the Fish Tales concession!  No reservations required; just stop on by for an hour, or for the whole afternoon.  All ages welcome. Ages 16+ need a valid fishing license.

In 2019, we hosted this event on June 23 at the Dam. We had perfect weather, and great time. The Friends gave a big "Thank you!" to Fish Tales, the concessions/bait shop at the Dam for donating bait and $1.00 coupons for snacks.
