Three of our main-stay Board Members stepped down in July. Our Chairperson, Neil; Vice Chairperson, Mike; and Recording Secretary, Myrna, all retired at the same time. Neil Whitman was our Chairperson from day one, and is still an active volunteer as a native plant gardener, a docent, and a bluebird monitor. Myrna Nelson had been our secretary from day one and remains a native plant gardener and docent. Mike Iwanicki took over for David Peterson in 2008, and not only got us registered with the state and federal government, but he led the way to our first grant. Expect to see all three volunteering at some of our special events.
At our July Annual Picnic and Meeting, the Friends voted in three active volunteers, Joan Proell, Mary Anderson, and Steve Domski as new members to the board. Appointments to new positions on the board were made at our August meeting. Weeks later we had a dinner honoring the retiring board, treating them and their spouses to a free dinner and a free FOMHSP cap for each retiree. Not all our board members made it to the dinner, but Dockers has good food & great service, so we had a good time.
